Pune: The state home department on Friday transferred special inspector general of police (prisons) Jalindar Supekar as deputy commandant general of Home Guards in Mumbai in the wake of allegations that the IPS officer tried to shield the in-laws of alleged dowry death victim Vaishnavi Hagawane and played a role in securing gun licences for her husband, Shashank, brother-in-law, Sushil, and family friend, Nilesh Chavan.Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis told reporters on the sidelines of a function in the city on Friday evening that he had received a complaint regarding these allegations against Supekar. “We are looking into its merits and have ensured that no one does any mischief or puts pressure on the ongoing investigation into the case,” he said.Additional secretary (home) Sandeep Dhakane issued the order transferring Supekar to Home Guards in Mumbai. The govt had relieved him of the additional charge of deputy inspector general of police (prisons) of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Nashik and Nagpur on Thursday. The govt action came after social activist Anjali Damania recently alleged in a press conference that Supekar, related to Vaishnavi’s in-laws, was trying to shield the Hagawane family and played a part in securing firearm licences to Shashank, Sushil and Chavan. She alleged that Chavan got a firearm licence despite having a previous criminal record. On his part, Supekar denied the allegations.Vaishnavi (24), the daughter-in-law of expelled NCP functionary Rajendra Hagawane, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her marital home in Bhukum on May 16. Her husband, Shashank, mother-in-law, Lata, and sister-in-law, Karishma, are lodged in Yerawada central prison under magisterial custody since May 29. Her father-in-law, Rajendra and brother-in-law, Sushil, are in police custody till May 31. Damania had alleged that the Hagawane family members would be in prison and might get preferential treatment.Pune: The state home department on Friday transferred special inspector general of police (prisons) Jalindar Supekar as deputy commandant general of Home Guards in Mumbai in the wake of allegations that the IPS officer tried to shield the in-laws of alleged dowry death victim Vaishnavi Hagawane and played a role in securing gun licences for her husband, Shashank, brother-in-law, Sushil, and family friend, Nilesh Chavan.Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis told reporters on the sidelines of a function in the city on Friday evening that he had received a complaint regarding these allegations against Supekar. “We are looking into its merits and have ensured that no one does any mischief or puts pressure on the ongoing investigation into the case,” he said.Additional secretary (home) Sandeep Dhakane issued the order transferring Supekar to Home Guards in Mumbai.
