Mumbai: IMD has issued a light to moderate rainfall warning for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad from June 9-12.In the 24 hours ending 8am on Sunday, 25mm of rainfall was recorded in the city, 14mm in the eastern suburbs and 6mm in the western suburbs. While a brief spell of intense rain was recorded on June 7 in the city and adjoining areas, the following day saw only light rain.The water stocks in the lakes supplying to Mumbai were at 1.55 lakh million litres—10.7% of the required quantum—on Sunday.Since June 1, IMD’s Colaba and Santacruz observatories have recorded 82.4mm and 87.5mm of rainfall, respectively. Monsoon arrived in Mumbai on May 26, a fortnight earlier than the usual onset date of June 11. The onset was marked by record-breaking rain in parts of south Mumbai with a lull thereafter. The Colaba observatory broke the all-time rainfall record for May, logging 503mm, and surpassing the previous record of 279.4mm set in May 1918. tnn
