IIT Delhi student found dead in hostel room under mysterious circumstances

New Delhi: A 25-year-old second-year biomechanical engineering student at IIT Delhi was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside his hostel room on Wednesday, police said.Kishangarh police station received a PCR call regarding a student not responding or opening the door of his hostel room. A police team went to the spot and found the door locked from inside. Delhi Fire Service personnel were called in and broke the lock. The student was found lying unconscious on the bed. He was declared dead on the spot by IIT doctors. “Preliminary inquiry revealed the deceased ate dinner on Monday night and was not seen or heard from the entire following day. This raised concerns among other students and security, who then alerted police,” said an officer.While there were no visible external injuries on the body, vomit was found on the floor, suggesting possible health-related complications, the officer added. The body was sent for postmortem to determine the exact cause of death. Further investigation is underway.In a statement, the institution said on Wednesday, “IIT Delhi deeply mourns the sad and untimely demise of a second-year PhD student. His body was found in the hostel room today. In this hour of grief, the institute is with the bereaved family and providing all support to them. Delhi Police is investigating the tragic incident.”
