Pune: NCP chief Ajit Pawar on Saturday once again justified his decision to support the candidature of gangsters’ kin in the PMC polls, saying a criminal’s family cannot be held responsible for his or her crime.“There is a difference between a criminal and his family. If a criminal commits a murder, how can his family be held responsible for his crime? I want to iterate that if someone is found guilty, I will not support such a person.” he said.
Pune MP Murlidhar Mohol, also in charge of Pune district for BJP, earlier this week criticised the NCP’s decision to field gangsters’ relatives in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) polls.Ajit Pawar’s party fielded gangster Gajanan Marne’s wife from the Bavdhan-Bhusari Colony ward. NCP also entered into an alliance with RPI (Kharat). Gangster Bandu Andekar’s kin — sister-in-law Laxmi and daughter-in-law Sonali — got RPI (Kharat)’s tickets from Raviwar Peth-Nana Peth. Both the relatives of Andekar are contesting the elections on NCP’s clock symbol, though. “Sachin Kharat, the chief of RPI (Kharat), requested for using our party’s symbol because their new symbol would not reach voters,” Ajit Pawar said, clarifying his stand on the issue.
