Neon has unveiled the first trailer for Hokum, a new supernatural horror starring Adam Scott and directed by Oddity filmmaker Damian McCarthy.

The teaser introduces Scott as Ohm Bauman, a withdrawn novelist who travels to a remote Irish inn to carry out his parents’ final wish of having their ashes scattered there. The act of mourning soon curdles into something more disturbing, as stories shared by the inn’s staff about a centuries-old witch begin to infiltrate Ohm’s thoughts. As the footage unfolds, Ohm is plagued by unsettling visions and drawn into a mystery that appears tied to both the inn and his own past.

Scott, best known in recent years for his acclaimed dramatic turn in Severance, continues his steady move into darker territory. The supporting cast includes Peter Coonan, David Wilmot, Florence Ordesh, Will O’Connell and Michael Patric.

The film is produced by Roy Lee and Steven Schneider alongside Derek Dauchy, Ruth Treacy, Julianne Forde, Mairtín de Barra, Ken Kao and Josh Rosenbaum, with a slate of genre veterans serving as executive producers. For Neon, Hokum continues a recent run of high-profile horror releases following titles like Longlegs and The Monkey.

Hokum is set to open in theaters on May 1, 2026.
