NEW DELHI: Delhi Police’s Special Cell, in coordinated raids with central agencies, have foiled a major terror plot by busting an IS-inspired module and detaining around a dozen suspects across Delhi, Ranchi, Mumbai, and Telangana. At least five operatives were arrested, including mastermind Ashar Danish from Ranchi, while others are under interrogation. Officials said the suspects were in touch with Pakistan-based handlers via encrypted apps like Signal and Telegram, operating under the banner of ‘Ghazwa-e-Hind’ — a concept rooted in IS ideology to establish an Islamic Caliphate in the subcontinent. The Special Cell shared more details in a live press conference by additional CP of the Special Cell, Pramod Singh Kushwaha at 12:30 pm today.Raids yielded a haul of chemicals such as hydrochloric and nitric acid, ball bearings, electronic components, gas masks, wires, and knives, all intended for making IEDs. “An anti-terror operation is currently underway and details can’t be disclosed at this stage,” said Pramod Kushwaha, additional commissioner (Special Cell). Among those arrested were Danish (alias CEO, Gazba, Professor), Abu Bakr alias Sufian and Aftab from Mumbai, Muzapa from Telangana, and Kamran. Police sources said the module had been under watch for six months and was preparing for a “large-scale attack.” Investigators suspect that an ISI operative, posing as an IS recruiter, guided the group’s activities. Digital devices and seized materials are being forensically examined to trace funding, networks, and possible targets. Police have filed an FIR under sections related to promoting enmity, disturbing communal harmony, and possession of illegal weapons. Officials confirmed that the swift action averted a possible terror strike.
