Former BJP corporator lodged in Yerawada jail dies in Sassoon hospital during treatment | Pune News



Pune: Former BJP corporator Uday Joshi (64), who was lodged in Yerawada Central Jail following his arrest in a cheating case last year, died while undergoing treatment at the Sassoon General Hospital on Friday morning. Joshi and his son were arrested in Dec 2024 on the charge of allegedly cheating people of over Rs1 crore on the promise of good returns on their investments via their gas agency business. Joshi had been in Yerawada jail since then. His lawyer had submitted his bail application before the court citing health reasons, and the hearing on the application was scheduled for Friday.

The superintendent of Yerawada Central Jail, Sunil Dhamal, told TOI, “Joshi was not well for the past few months. He was provided treatment in the jail hospital as he was under judicial custody. He was taken to Sassoon hospital on Friday morning, where he died.” Joshi was the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) corporator from Sadashiv Peth from 1997-2002.
