New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Friday said only scientifically processed material from the Okhla landfill site was being transported and dumped at an authorised site near NTPC Badarpur Eco Park.Referring to a TOI report, which said that untreated garbage was being dumped near Madanpur Khadar Extension, MCD said the material being moved from the Okhla dumpsite comprises inert material and construction and demolition waste generated through biomining and bioremediation of legacy waste at the landfill.When TOI visited the dump site earlier this week, it found polyethene bags, pieces of glass and cloth, and construction debris in mounds across the dumpsite, which is close to a JJ Colony in Madanpur Khadar Extension. In a statement on Friday, MCD said only “processed waste is being transported in a regulated manner to a designated site spread over 42 acres, where it is being used for filling low-lying land”. “The land belongs to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Land & Development Office, and the required permissions have been obtained,” the statement said.The corporation also said the dumpsite does not fall within the floodplains.In the official statement, MCD reiterated set norms for bioremediation of waste at landfill sites, which were part of the TOI report.“The bio-mining process involves segregation of waste into refuse-derived fuel (RDF), construction and demolition material, and inert fractions suitable for land filling, in line with environmental norms and directions of the National Green Tribunal,” it said.The corporation has set deadlines of July 2026 for clearing the Okhla dumpsite, Dec 2026 for Bhalswa, and Dec 2027 for Ghazipur.
