Fire tenders, quick response vehicles to be deployed at vulnerable locations for Diwali

New Delhi: With Diwali approaching, the fire department has identified 41 high-risk locations where fire tenders and quick response vehicles will be deployed to ensure rapid emergency response. Among these, 17 key sites with heavy footfall will have static fire tenders stationed. Fire tenders will be deployed on Oct 19 and 20, from 5 pm to 12 am, at the following locations—Bara Tooti Chowk, Tilak Nagar, Lajpat Nagar Central Market, Lal Kuan Chowk, Lahori Gate, South Extension, Sonia Vihar, DTC Depot Katran Market, Gandhi Nagar Market, Mahipal Pur Chowk, Sangam Vihar, Mundka Metro Station, Azad Market Chowk, Jaipur Golden Hospital, New Ashok Nagar Police Station, Yamuna Vihar (New Fire Station site) and Radha Soami Satsang, Bhati Mines. Additionally, 24 quick response vehicles will patrol areas that are either far from fire stations or located in narrow lanes that are difficult for fire tenders to access. This strategy aims to reduce response times, limit damage during emergencies and safeguard both residents and firefighters. Data shows that the fire department received 318 calls during Diwali last year, compared to 208 in 2023 and 201 in 2022. In an order, the fire department said that any kind of leave for officers and staff on Oct 19 and 20 may be restricted. “All divisional and additional divisional officers shall ensure the proper maintenance and upkeep of fire vehicles under their jurisdiction,” it stated. It also mandates regular inspections to confirm the availability and functionality of fire units and equipment, including BA sets, foam branches, hoses, cutting tools and rescue equipment. Deputy chief fire officer AK Malik has advised the public to avoid placing diyas near combustible materials to reduce fire risks. He has also asked people to check loose electrical connections or overloads to prevent short circuits.
