Pune: The city fire brigade and police personnel rescued an 18-year-old youth from the Mutha river waters, off DP Road in Erandwane, on Monday morning. The teenager, according to the Alankar police, was depressed and jumped into the river from the Rajaram bridge. Senior inspector Sunita Rokade of the Alankar police said, “The college student hails from Ahilyanagar. Recently, his mother passed away. He has been depressed since then. He had moved to Pune and stayed with his maternal uncle. It is not yet known why he jumped into the river waters.”She said, “The youngster’s uncle informed us about his health issues. He also told us that the youth was undergoing treatment for depression.”Rokade said, “The river has a strong water current now because of rain in the past few days. After jumping off the bridge, the youth floated in the river waters. He then tightly grabbed the cement channel in the river. Residents of nearby areas spotted him in the river and raised an alarm.”Fire station officer Rajesh Jagtap and his team reached the spot, and informed the police. The officials then rescued the youth from the river.“We moved the youth to a nearby private hospital. Doctors informed us that he suffered minor injuries,” Rokade said.
