Fake call centre busted in Dwarka for cheating insurance policyholders of nearly one crore

New Delhi: A fake call centre was busted in Dwarka for cheating victims of nearly Rs 1 crore. Ten people, including a woman, were arrested for allegedly duping insurance policyholders by posing as officials from regulators and banks. The racket came to light after police analysed complaints uploaded on the NCRP. One complaint was linked to an account at a branch of a public bank in Dwarka Sector-6, which showed a suspicious pattern of cheque-based cash withdrawals.Police found that the accused targeted victims whose insurance policies lapsed, luring them with promises of releasing maturity amounts or settling policies. Using fake logos and forged notices purportedly issued by various banks and regulators, the callers convinced victims to transfer money towards “processing fees,” NOCs, or premature settlement charges.“The team tracked one Nishant Chauhan, a resident of Palam Village. He was nabbed when he arrived at the bank to withdraw Rs 2 lakh,” said DCP (Dwarka) Ankit Singh. The accused told the cops that he and several others provided their bank accounts in return for commissions ranging from 1.5% to 10% of the amount. His associates were also arrested during the subsequent raids.
