If you are learning or practicing Carnatic and Hindustani classical music and are under the age of 40, this is for you. Join The Hindu in celebrating the Margazhi music season by participating in The Hindu Margazhi Music Contest that offers a unique platform to artists to perform in the comfort of their homes and be judged by professionals, online.

Open to all music enthusiasts, the contest encourages participation from across a wide spectrum of talents. To enter the contest, participants should submit a video of their performance at https://newsth.live/margazhi2025 or scan the QR code. The length of the video recording should not exceed 5 minutes. Videos uploaded on online platforms or recorded at concerts will not be accepted.
Participants must register under one category only. Multiple category registrations will lead to automatic selection of first submitted category only.
Melodic instruments allowed include, Veena, Nadaswaram, Harmonium, Flute, Violin, Jalatharangam, Chithravina, Viola, Mandolin, Saxophone, Clarinet, Guitar and Keyboard. Percussion instruments allowed include, Mridangam, Thavil, Khanjira, Ghatam, Morsing, and Tabla. Konnakol would be considered as percussion.
Only individual participation is allowed. Duos and groups will not be allowed. For vocalists, instrumentalists, and percussion solo, shruti box / tambura should be the only accompaniment in the video. There is no bar for entry of previous participants in the competition. The participants must ensure that access to view is provided to the video link in the google drive submitted. If access is not provided, the entry cannot be accepted. The last date for submission of entries is January 9, 2026.
