New Delhi: Lieutenant governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu has directed the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to promote Dwarka sub-city as a vibrant hub for international events, business engagements and cultural activities, citing its strategic location and expanding infrastructure.Sandhu reviewed several projects in Dwarka on Wednesday, including storm water channels No. 2 and 5, the golf course at Sector-24, the five-star hotel project at Sector-23, Bharat Vandana Park and the Yashobhoomi Convention Centre.Highlighting Dwarka’s connectivity through UER-II, proximity to IGI Airport and facilities such as Yashobhoomi, the upcoming Bharat Vandana Park and the golf course, the LG said the area had the potential to emerge as a premier destination for global engagements.“A comprehensive roadmap must be developed to position these places as vibrant centres for international conventions, exhibitions, cultural festivals and business summits. We must actively invite multinational companies, global institutions and embassies to organise events here,” Sandhu said.During the review, DDA officials highlighted storm water channels No. 2 and 5 as key urban transformation initiatives. The projects involve converting critical drainage infrastructure into green recreational corridors with cycling tracks, walkways, public plazas, solar installations and community amenities, while also strengthening sewage treatment and pollution abatement systems.The LG also reviewed the five-star hotel project in Sector-23, being developed under an annual licence fee model. The selected bidder will develop, build, finance, operate and transfer the hotel, which will have a minimum of 200 lettable rooms.At Sector-26, Dwarka, Sandhu inspected proposed sites for an IT and IT-enabled services hub along UER-II (Part-D), located near the upcoming ICC Metro Station. He also assessed the potential of the Yashobhoomi Convention Centre and its surrounding areas for hosting large-scale national and international events.DDA officials said the LG directed them to prepare a holistic, time-bound roadmap to leverage Dwarka’s strategic location and infrastructure by promoting it as a hub for global events and investments, and to actively engage with corporations, embassies and other stakeholders for conventions, film festivals, exhibitions and cultural programmes.In the final leg of the visit, Sandhu inspected the golf course at Sector-24 — one of India’s longest public golf facilities — featuring an 18-hole championship course, six short holes and the country’s longest driving range. Designed as a pay-and-play, international-quality sporting destination, the project aims to promote sports culture and nurture young golfers.
