Senior inspector Ravindra Gaikwad of Bund Garden police told TOI, “Mane is employed as a delivery person with a logistical company which couriers gold and diamond jewellery from jewellery makers to the jewellery stores which placed orders.”“We are not ruling out the possibilities of the victim being followed by the suspects before they robbed him or somebody known to the business being involved in the crime,” Gaikwad said. “We are examining CCTV footage collected from establishments around the spot to ascertain the identity of the two men,” he added.“After robbing the gold jewellery, the duo travelled towards Bund Garden police station and then took a left turn towards Camp,” Gaikwad said. “We are trying to ascertain the registration number of the motorcycle used in the crime,” he said.“It’s a routine practice of the logistical company, which has an office in Somwar Peth in Pune, to transport jewellery and gems through the logistical persons. The company transports gold or diamonds weighing half a kilogram to two kilograms with the courier boys,” Gaikwad said.He said, “In this case, some jewellery stores in Pune had given orders for the gold jewellery stores located in Mumbai and Ahmedabad with particular designs. The duo followed Mane when he was walking towards the prepaid autorickshaw booth. One of them put his hand on Mane’s shoulder while the other man grabbed his waist. The man who grabbed his waist put a pistol on his waist and issued threats of dire consequences to Mane.”“One of them said, ‘Tere pass jo bhi hai hum ko de de,’ and Mane handed over the bag,” he said. Gaikwad said, “After the robbers fled from the scene, Mane went to their Somwar Peth office and the staffers called their Mumbai office informing them about the robbery. The senior officers from Mumbai came to Pune with the jewellery documents and receipts, and later in the evening, the company staffers approached us with their complaint,” he said. The Bund Garden and crime branch teams are searching for the suspects in Camp, Wanowrie, Hadapsar, old parts of the city, and in Lonavla and Mumbai areas.
