New Delhi: A new chapter in clean energy innovation has opened at Delhi Technological University (DTU) with the launch of a laboratory on Monday.Conceived as an innovation hub, Yogi Goswami Clean Energy Laboratory will focus on renewable energy, its storage and sustainable technologies. It is designed to serve as a bridge between academia, industry and society, and accelerate India towards its net-zero target for 2070, university officials said.“The lab will foster cutting-edge research, nurture startups and encourage student-led innovation to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. This lab has been established as a part of the Nodal Centre of Excellence in Energy Transition (NCEET), DTU, with a contribution by Professor Yogi Goswami, an alumnus of DTU’s class of 1969,” an official said.Delhi education minister Ashish Sood, who opened the lab, called it a milestone in the country’s clean energy journey and a symbol of the country’s “atmanirbhar” vision. “India has achieved its 2030 target of 50% clean energy share by 2025, five years ahead of schedule. In June 2025, clean sources contributed 31% of the national electricity generation, while coal dependence dropped by 3%. India’s installed non-fossil fuel capacity now stands at 224.8 GW, including 117 GW from solar and 51.7 GW from wind energy,” he said.Sood also did a tour of DTU’s Innovation & Incubation Foundation. He said that Delhi govt will extend support and funding to budding entrepreneurs from DTU to encourage innovation and incubation. “Clean energy is not tomorrow’s dream, it is today’s responsibility. With DTU’s innovation, we will ensure Delhi becomes a national benchmark for sustainable, responsible, and future-ready governance,” he said.
