New Delhi: The city saw moderate rain on Saturday, with several areas experiencing high-intensity showers in the evening. The weather department expects rainfall activity to continue until Monday.The weather department has issued a yellow alert for light to moderate rain on Sunday, as the monsoon trough has shifted near the city and now lies south of Delhi.“The monsoon trough at mean sea level now passes through Ganganagar, Gwalior, Banda, Dehri, centre of a low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal and its neighbourhood, and thence east southeastwards to the northeast Bay of Bengal,” stated IMD.On Saturday, Safdarjung, the city’s base weather station, recorded 24.8 mm of rainfall between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm. Palam recorded 16.5 mm, Lodhi Road 27 mm, Ridge area 9.6 mm, Ayanagar 34 mm, Pragati Maidan 3.2 mm, Pusa 13.5 mm, Najafgarh 7.5 mm, and Janakpuri 5 mm of rainfall.So far, the month of Aug has recorded 286.7 mm of rain till 5.30 pm on Saturday, against a long-period average of 233.1 mm.Meanwhile, the city on Saturday recorded a maximum temperature of 35.1 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal against 34.8 degrees Celsius a day earlier. The minimum temperature was recorded at 25.7 degrees Celsius, a notch below normal against 26.2 degrees Celsius a day earlier. The humidity oscillated between 100-65%, with a peak wind speed of 6 km/h in a south-westerly direction.On Sunday, the maximum temperature is likely to hover around 30–32°C, with moderate showers at some places.Meanwhile, the air quality improved back to satisfactory levels. The air quality index (AQI) was 97 against 102 on Friday.
