New Delhi: Delhi Metro intensified its fight against pollution, installing mist spray systems at 37 stations, besides anti-smog guns at 83 locations, on the directions of Delhi govt. DMRC also informed govt that around 200 metro pillars will be painted with nature-themed artwork, aimed at combining environmental messaging with urban beautification.83 anti-smog guns and other dust-control measures were deployed at construction sites. A plan to install 20 additional anti-smog guns is also underway.“The installation of all anti-smog guns will be completed by 15 Jan. Stations where these guns are installed or are proposed to be installed include Kashmere Gate, Samaypur Badli, Dwarka Sector-21, Rajouri Garden, Anand Vihar, Peeragarhi, Ashok Vihar and Metro Bhawan, among others,” said CM office.Mist spray systems are designed to reduce dust and airborne pollutants by spraying a fine mist of water particles into the air, which binds with dust and particulate matter, causing them to settle and improve air quality in high-traffic areas. The system works continuously or in timed intervals, targeting hotspots such as construction sites, busy roads and metro corridors.Such a system is already installed at several places in NDMC areas and around ITO, where heavy traffic and construction activity contribute to high dust levels. Delhi cabinet in Dec mandated the installation of mist systems (if anti-smog guns are not already installed) on high-rise commercial buildings as part of the city’s pollution-control measures.Appreciating the metro’s efforts, chief minister Rekha Gupta said, “The DMRC should work as a model agency in Delhi’s fight against pollution, so other departments can draw inspiration. Providing clean air to the citizens of the capital is among govt’s highest priorities.”
