New Delhi: Delhi govt distributed scholarship amounts to meritorious students belonging to the economically weaker section under Delhi Higher and Technical Education Assistance Scheme on Monday.Under this scheme, implemented by Directorate of Education of Delhi govt, scholarships amounting to nearly Rs 25.3 crore were awarded to 1,709 students studying in various universities across Delhi.Addressing a large gathering of students at Thyagaraj Stadium, chief minister Rekha Gupta said, “Providing scholarships is Delhi govt’s investment in their bright future. The initiative is a significant step towards strengthening the future of the youth. Under the academic years 2023-24 and 2024-25, a total scholarship amount of nearly Rs 25.3 crore was transferred directly to the bank accounts of 1,709 meritorious students.” A pending scholarship amount of Rs 19 crore was also released, she added. “No amount earmarked for students’ education will remain pending henceforth.” Marking National Youth Day and the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, CM urged students to study the thoughts and philosophy of Swami Vivekananda and continue progressing steadily in their careers while striving to realise their dreams.Education minister Ashish Sood, who was also present at the event, said this platform was a clear political and moral declaration that, in Delhi, education would no longer be a subject of politics; rather, politics would be devoted only to the reform of education. He said this change did not come from speeches, but from policy and intent. “The core mantra of our govt is antyodaya. Antyodaya means that the first benefit of the system must reach the student who stands at the very end, but dreams of moving to the very front,” he added.A total of 1,709 applications were approved across seven Delhi universities for the two academic years combined. For 2023-24, 908 applications were approved while 801 were cleared for 2024-25. NSUT recorded 258 approvals in 2023-24 and 166 in 2024-25, taking its total to 424. DSEU approved 207 applications in 2023-24 and 213 in 2024-25, with a combined total of 420. DTU cleared 225 applications in 2023-24 and 174 in 2024-25, totalling 399. GGSIPU approved 97 and 108 applications across the two years, with a total of 205. IIIT recorded 59 approvals in 2023-24 and 57 in 2024-25, amounting to 116. IGDTUW approved 35 and 47 applications, totalling 87, while DPSRU approved 27 applications in 2023-24 and 36 in 2024-25, taking its total to 63.
