New Delhi: Delhi govt is exploring a collaboration with IIT Kanpur to develop an AI-enabled decision support system for data-driven deduction and granular data generation, environment minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said on Sunday. The plan aims to use sensor-based local monitoring, alongside existing air quality stations, to produce hyper-local data and dynamic source apportionment for targeted pollution control. “Delhi govt is preparing a comprehensive, year-round strategy to combat air pollution through science-backed interventions, advanced technology, and coordinated governance,” Sirsa said on Sunday.
A pilot project using low-cost sensors will first be implemented in select wards to assess data accuracy. The collaboration will also enable multi-agency coordination among civic bodies, district administrations, enforcement agencies, and technical institutions through a shared data platform. Sirsa said govt is focusing on four key fronts — vehicular emissions, dust control, polluting industries, and waste management— with round-the-clock interventions by civic agencies.
