Delhi court grants bail to Lalit Modi's brother Samir Modi in rape case; Rs 5 lakh bond imposed

NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Thursday granted bail to Samir Modi in a rape case against him. He was granted bail on a Rs 5 lakh bond along with several other conditions. The detailed order is awaited. On Tuesday, Additional Sessions Judge Vipin Kharb had reserved the order on Modi’s bail plea after hearing arguments from the complainant’s legal team. The proceedings took place in-camera, with only those associated with the case present. Senior advocate Ramesh Gupta, appearing for Modi, urged the court to grant bail. Opposing the plea, Delhi Police had argued that Modi, an influential figure, poses a significant flight risk. An FIR was lodged against him on September 10, followed by the issuance of a Look Out Circular. On September 19, the court had granted a two-day further remand of Modi to Delhi Police. He was sent to judicial custody on Sunday.
