NEW DELHI: Delhi Police has registered a case against a 46-year-old teacher of a private university for allegedly stealing a replica of a dancing girl from National Museum in the Janpath road.According to police, around 2.40pm on Saturday, a CISF head constable alerted museum staff that a replica from the gallery had gone missing. Nikhil Kumar, who was on the gallery duty, immediately went to the spot.The teacher, associated with Ashoka University in Haryana’s Sonipat, was identified and the artefact was recovered. Following the recovery, CISF informed Delhi Police, and the teacher was detained. He was later granted bail, but bound down, requiring him to appear before the investigating officer whenever he is asked to join the investigation.The case has been registered under sections 305(e) (theft in a dwelling, means of transport or place of worship) and 317(2) (handling stolen property) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). A police officer said the teacher claimed that he had bought some artefacts at the museum and mistakenly kept the replica in his bag. Ashoka University said that it had got to know about the incident and would conduct an inquiry.
