Pune: A criminal on police records was arrested on Monday on the charge of abducting a 30-year-old woman and raping her repeatedly. The Mahalunge MIDC police also arrested the criminal’s four accomplices, who helped him in abducting the woman. “The suspect, who has over 10 cases registered against him, confined the woman in a room at a village in Khed taluka between June 5 and 7, during which he raped her repeatedly,” senior inspector Nitin Gite of the Mahalunge MIDC police told TOI. Gite said the criminal and the woman were in a relationship. “Recently, the woman lodged a rape complaint against the criminal with the Alandi police. Furious by this, the suspect and his two accomplices went to the woman’s house on June 5 and forcibly took her with them,” Gite said.The officer said the suspect released the woman after two days. “Before that, he threatened to kill her if she lodged a complaint against him. Undeterred, the woman approached us and lodged a complaint. We arrested the suspect and his four accomplices, who have been remanded to police custody till June 12,” the officer added.
