Pune: Police on Friday evening arrested a criminal on police records for opening fire in the air while threatening his ‘girlfriend’ after a trivial argument near Lonavla ST bus stand around 9pm on Wednesday.Deputy superintendent of police Gajanan Tompe of Pune rural police told TOI: “We arrested Rahul Taru of Sahakarnagar. He used his licensed pistol to open fire in the air. He fired two rounds when the area was deserted.”“After the incident, the car in which Taru and his girlfriend arrived in Lonavla headed towards the Pune-Mumbai Expressway. Our team studied the car’s registration number, traced the vehicle to Pune city, and arrested Taru,” Tompe said.Police constable Avinash Jadhav of Lonavla city police lodged a complaint on Thursday morning.Tompe said Taru and his girlfriend came to Lonavla, and both of them got into an argument in the car. “Taru halted his car near the ST bus stand. CCTV camera footage shows Taru alighting from one door while his girlfriend stepping out from another. He slapped her twice and then opened fire in the air to threaten her,” the police officer said, adding the weapon used in the crime was seized.
