Pune: A Chinchwad multiplex horror movie screening took a terrifying turn on Friday night when a man’s loud play-by-play commentary to his wife annoyed a techie seated nearby, eventually escalating into a physical fight that left the techie and his wife battered and bruised. The incident unfolded during the screening of ‘The Conjuring: Last Rites’. Following the altercation, the 29-year-old techie from Bijlinagar in Chinchwad received preliminary treatment, along with his wife, at a nearby hospital and subsequently lodged a complaint with the Chinchwad police on Sunday. The police identified the accused man and his wife as residents of Pimpri’s Vallabhnagar. “In his complaint, the techie alleged that the accused (Vallabhnagar resident) was seated behind him and kept narrating the movie’s story to his wife. This prompted the techie to politely ask him to stop spoiling the suspense for him and his wife and sister (who were accompanying him),” sub-inspector SJ Mohite of the Chinchwad police told TOI.According to the complaint, all was fine till the intermission when the accused started abusing the techie. “As the accused hurdled abuses at the techie, he turned around and was attacked out of blue. The accused beat up the techie and pushed him down by dragging him by his shirt’s collar. The accused then kicked the techie on his face, stomach and hand. When the techie’s wife tried to intervene, the accused and his wife started beating and abusing her too,” Mohite said.Based on the techie’s complaint, the Chinchwad police registered a case against the Vallabhnagar couple for offences under sections 117 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 115 (causing hurt), and 352 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).The officer said the accused and his wife were yet to be arrested. “We are searching for them. Further investigations are under way,” Mohite added. The Conjuring franchise centres around Ed and Lorraine Warren, a renowned husband-and-wife duo of paranormal investigators who gained widespread recognition for tackling high-profile cases, including the infamous Amityville Horror and the Perron family haunting.
