Cop suspended on charge of concealing illegal stay of Bangladeshi woman

Pune: A woman police constable posted at Faraskhana police station was suspended for failing to take action against a Bangladeshi woman residing in the red-light area of Budhwar Peth. Deputy commissioner of police (Zone I) Krushikesh Rawale issued her suspension order on Friday night. Instead of alerting senior officers about the illegal immigrant, she allegedly protected her. The DCP’s order stated that the woman constable accepted a bribe from the Bangladeshi woman and the brothel keepers to remain silent about her illegal stay in India.

According to the police, the Bangladeshi woman was brought to the red-light area of Budhwar Peth through a middleman from her country in 2023. She was just 15 years old then.The Bangladeshi national allegedly met the suspended constable of Faraskhana police station after some time. The police said she narrated her plight to the constable and requested the latter not to disclose her identity. The constable kept the matter suppressed in lieu of money, a source said.The Bangladeshi woman lodged a complaint with the Faraskhana police two weeks ago, claiming that she was forced into prostitution. Based on her complaint, a case was registered against eight people, including the agent and the brothel owner.Senior officers recorded the statement of the Bangladeshi woman during the course of investigation. She disclosed how the woman constable concealed her stay in Budhwar Peth in her satement, the source added.
