Pune: A 43-year-old constable sustained minor injuries on Saturday evening while attempting to stop an SUV at Medankarwadi near Chakan after finding a pending challan of Rs62,000 on the vehicle. As the woman waved her hands to stop the vehicle, the driver did not stop and drove away. The woman sustained bruises on her left hand and a jerk on her right hand.The Chakan police registered a case against the SUV driver under sections 121 (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt to deter public servant from his duty) and 132 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). “We have the vehicle’s registration number. We are searching for the driver,” Police sub-inspector Sachin Morkhande of the Chakan police told TOI.Morkhande said that the incident happened at Medankarwadi around 4.15pm on Saturday. The constable and a traffic warden were manning the traffic at Alandi Phata in Medankarwadi when they noticed a sports utility vehicle (SUV) at the traffic signal. “When the constable checked the vehicle’s registration number in the app, she found that a challan of Rs62,000 was pending on it,” Morkhande said.He said that when she told the driver to furnish the driving licence, he told her that he did not carry the licence and could do whatever she wanted to do. “Following this, the constable told him to take the SUV along the road. The driver then started abusing the woman. Instead of proceeding along the road, the driver began to drive away. As the constable waved to halt the vehicle, it hit both her hands,” Morkhande said.
