Pune: State govt has removed Pankaj Deore from the post of chairman and managing director (CMD) of the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML), less than seven months after he took charge.Mahesh Awhad, who was serving as the chief executive officer of the Maharashtra Medical Goods Procurement Authority in Mumbai, has been appointed as the new CMD.Deore had taken charge from Deepa Mudhol-Munde and was appointed CMD in mid-July last year. Mudhol-Munde had assumed office in July 2024. However, she, Deore and several other officers have not been able to complete the full three-year tenure at the ailing transport body.In the past 19 years, PMPML has had more than 21 CMDs, with Pankaj Deore being the 22nd to hold the post. Except for RN Joshi, who was appointed in 2011, none of the officers have been able to complete the three-year tenure. The economic survey report has presented a grim picture of the transport body, highlighting a shortage of buses and declining passenger traffic.
