CM pushes for Metro routes in newly developed areas | Pune News

Pune: Key Metro stretches in and around Pune under phase-II expansion are likely to get further push with chief minister Devendra Fadnavis announcing plans for expanding the transit system’s reach in several cities, including Mumbai and Nagpur. The Khadakwasla-Swargate-Hadapsar-Kharadi is a key line proposed in the phase-II expansion besides construction of Metro lines from Hadapsar to Loni Kalbhor and Hadapsar to Saswad Road. Sources from the city’s transport sector said all three lines will connect the city’s old pockets to the newly developing areas. If executed within the stipulated time frame, the lines will benefit a significant number of commuters.

Pune: Metro Expansion Push, Investment Boom, Highway Tragedy & More

Fadnavis, during his speech, said state govt has been working towards expansion of Metro network and govt has approved new lines in Pune and surrounding areas. Most of the newly proposed lines are expected to be executed by Maha Metro. Maha Metro officials said the proposals are at various stages of studies and approvals. An official said, “We are working on the technical aspects of the Khadakwasla-Swargate-Hadapsar-Kharadi line. This is a key line as it is covering the city’s main areas and hence it will play an important role in daily commute. The union govt approved this line in Nov 2025 which is going to have 28 stations, it will cover a distance of 32 km.” Regular travellers, however, have expressed apprehensions over slow execution of Metro works. Sanjay Shitole, who has been closely monitoring the progress of Metro projects in the city, said the state govt and Maha Metro should expedite execution construction. “The project should get over within three to four years after inception of the work. Dragging of work is going to lead to hardship for all,” he said. Arvind Kadam, a resident of Shivajinagar, said CM should also set up a committee to monitor the progress of Metro works. “Only two Metro lines have been made fully operational in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad in the last 10 years. Two extensions are under construction while all remaining lines are still on paper and at planning stages,” Kadam said. Night landing facility for Baramati airport likelyBaramati will likely get night landing facility along with Latur, Amaravati and Yevatmal. Sachin Satav, president of Baramati Municipal Council, said this was a long-pending dream of the late deputy CM Ajit Pawar. “A lot of VIPs — from both political, business and industrial sectors — come to Baramati. Since it is not a regular airport, only charteredflights or helicopters come here. With night landing operative, they can come at any time and leave at any time making transport flexible for them. This will be a big boost for the industrial sector in the town,” said Satav.
