CM lays foundation stone for Ladakh-style foot overbridge at Monastery Market

New Delhi: Chief minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday laid the foundation stone for a foot overbridge at Monastery Market near Kashmere Gate, which will be constructed on a Ladakhi theme. The estimated cost of the structure is Rs 3 crore. With this, the traffic in the region will be eased, and commuters between Ladakh Buddha Vihar and monastery market will be able to cross the road safely.The CM said that the project would fulfil a long-standing demand of local residents. “This bridge will be constructed keeping in mind the architecture of Ladakh. Two lifts will also be installed. With the construction of the foot overbridge, people coming and going to Ladakh Buddha Vihar and Monastery Market will get the facility to cross the road safely. At the same time, traffic on the Ring Road will also be able to move more smoothly,” said Gupta.

The proposed design of the bridge combines modern facilities with cultural identity and traditions of Ladakh. Lifts will convenience the elderly, persons with disabilities, and pregnant women.“Delhi is the mirror of the nation, where people from different states and cultures live together in harmony. Families from Ladakh resided in Delhi for many years in peace and goodwill, spreading the message of harmony and compassion through the teachings of Lord Buddha,” the CM said.PWD minister Pravesh Verma said the project would bring significant relief to local citizens, devotees and visitors to the nearby market.
