CM Fadnavis defends OBC reservation policy, says no threat to community’s rights | Pune News

Pune: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday strongly defended his govt’s stand on OBC and Maratha reservations, asserting that the recently issued govt resolution (GR) does not undermine the rights of OBCs.“Not a single non-OBC person will be included in the OBC category. The GR has clear safeguards,” Fadnavis said.Speaking to reporters at the CoEP Technological University in Pune, Fadnavis accused the opposition of creating confusion and indulging in “politics over reservation”.Hitting out at Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar, the chief minister said, “He has no right to speak on this. Whatever has been done for the OBC community was done only by our govt. Between 2014 and 2025, every major decision for OBC welfare—from establishing a ministry, launching Mahajyoti, setting up 42 hostels, and restoring the reservation scrapped by the Uddhav Thackeray govt—was taken by us. We also implemented 27% OBC reservation.“Fadnavis said fear-mongering over reservation was affecting students’ mindset. He clarified that only those with Kunbi records will be eligible for certificates, while others need not worry. “We care for OBCs, Marathas, and all sections of society. Unless leaders present the real facts, tensions will not be reduced. Extreme politics cannot benefit society,” Fadnavis said.Commenting on the law and order situation, the CM sent a strong message, declaring that the state will not tolerate gang wars or local feuds. “If anyone dares to raise their head, we know how to bring it down,” he warned, hinting at strict action against criminals in Pune.Push for DJ-free MaharashtraReiterating his govt’s stand on noise pollution, Fadnavis said, “Our role is to make Maharashtra DJ-free. During Ganeshotsav, the use of DJs has decreased in cities. Awareness is key; when citizens voluntarily stop using DJs, it becomes sustainable.”Remarks on Sharad PawarWhen asked about NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar, he said, “Pawar Saheb is a senior leader. He is known for saying one thing and implying another. It would not be proper for me to comment much on him.”
