New Delhi: Delhi Police has made a second arrest in connection with the case pertaining to attack on chief minister Rekha Gupta during a jan sunwai at Civil Lines. The second accused — identified as Tehsin — is a resident of Rajkot and a close associate of Rajesh Bhai Khimji Bhai Sakriya, the man who carried out the attack. Sources revealed that the attacker had initially planned to attack with a knife but abandoned the idea due to heightened security at the CM’s residence. TOI earlier reported that four of Sakriya’s friends and associates, including Tehsin, were under investigation.According to police, Tehsin was actively involved in the conspiracy. He, like Sakriya, claimed to be a dog lover and was reportedly upset over recent court orders related to stray dogs. Investigators said Tehsin was in regular contact with Sakriya before the attack and allegedly transferred Rs 2,000 to him shortly before the incident. Sakriya used this money to travel to Delhi, said police.According to police, while conducting a recce of the CM’s residence, Sakriya remained in constant touch with Tehsin, even sending him videos of the location. The initial plan, according to sources, was to stage a protest near a court. However, due to tight security, they changed their plan and decided to target the chief minister directly.“They decided that if the CM didn’t agree to their demands, Sakriya would attack her with a knife,” a source said. But upon reaching the CM’s residence and noticing the heavy security presence, Sakriya abandoned the plan and disposed of the knife. The incident led to a review of the CM’s security, and CRPF was assigned to protect her. Police said there were seven previous criminal cases against Sakriya. TNN
