'Cloak to fritter away assets': Karisma Kapoor’s children fight for will details in Delhi HC; seek clarity
The dispute over Sunjay Kapur’s will intensified in Delhi High Court, with Karisma Kapoor’s children, represented by Mahesh Jethmalani, challenging the confidentiality of asset details

NEW DELHI: The dispute over late Sunjay Kapur’s will took a turn on Friday as senior lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani, representing Karisma Kapoor’s children, challenged the need for keeping details of the assets and liabilities under confidentiality. During the hearing in Delhi high court, Jethmalani argued that critical information may be withheld from the rightful beneficiaries.Jethmalani told the court, “My client is an inheritor. We must know what has been left out,” dismissing the plea for confidentiality as a “cloak to fritter away the assets.” He alleged that the other side was attempting to shield documents at the last moment. As per news agency ANI, the arguments follow Thursday’s observations by the Delhi high court, where Justice Jyoti Singh had noted that filing the asset list in a sealed cover could be problematic. “Allowing the application may be problematic for the simple reason that as the alleged beneficiaries of the estate, they have a right to question the assets disclosed. How will they defend their case if they are bound by this confidentiality club?” the judge said.Priya Sachdev Kapur, Sunjay Kapur’s wife, had sought permission to file the list of his personal assets and liabilities under confidentiality, citing security concerns including bank and other financial details. Her lawyer argued that public disclosure could compromise safety, especially as media and press attention has intensified.(With agency inputs)
