CJI launches live streaming of high court proceedings

Mumbai: Chief Justice of India (CJI) Bhushan R Gavai on Saturday launched live streaming of Bombay High Court proceedings. The High Court organised the felicitation of CJI Gavai on Saturday. Later, the Advocates’ Association of Western India (AAWI), which was celebrating its 161st anniversary, also felicitated the CJI. The CJI regaled the large audience with anecdotes of his life as a lawyer and Judge of Bombay High Court at the felicitation held by the court. He reminded judges to be faithful to the oath they took as judges and do nothing that brings disrepute to the hallowed institution of justice delivery. “If you work with dedication, devotion, and conscience, you have nothing to worry about,” he said. CJI Gavai recalled what Justice RM Lodha—also former CJI—said to him once when he was in the Bombay HC, “God has chosen very few of you to serve the nation. What is required is commitment and dedication, but rudely behaving with lawyers or calling officers needlessly to court now and then hardly serves the purpose.”Before the CJI spoke, SC Justices AS Chandurkar, Ujjal Bhuyan, PB Varale, and Dipankar Datta addressed the gathering of judges. Justice Datta, former Chief Justice of Bombay High Court, said judges must have a better work-life balance. Justice Datta said, “The Bench is not a seat of power but a platform for service,” At the AAWI function, CJI Gavai got emotional, remembering his father, and said his father’s dream about him serving the nation came true. “Let us dedicate our lives to eradication of all differences and to upholding of all constitutional values and principles,” the CJI concluded. He also spoke at the Government Law College (GLC) on Saturday.
