Pune: A citizens’ group has written to PMC commissioner Naval Kishore Ram to initiate a programme to manage stray dogs more effectively.Sudhir Mehta and Manoj Pochat of Pune Platform for Collaborative Response, in a letter, said that various parts of the city were witnessing a steady increase in stray dog-related incidents.“Pune, as a rapidly growing metropolitan city, faces similar challenges that require structured and decisive action. With the city’s increasing population density and limited open spaces, the potential for stray dog-related incidents is likely to rise unless addressed through organised interventions. In light of the situation in Pune and the steps taken elsewhere, we request PMC to initiate an organised city-wide programme to manage stray dogs more effectively,” the letter stated.Mehta and Pochat said it would urge all citizens to follow safe practices and cooperate with the authorities during stray dog management drives. “We request the administration to take proactive measures to ensure effective capture, sheltering, and humane care of stray dogs, while minimising risks to the public,” the letter stated.
