New Delhi: A court has granted two weeks’ interim bail to Jawad Ahmad Siddiqui, an accused in a money laundering case linked to Al-Falah group, citing the serious medical condition of his wife undergoing chemotherapy.Additional sessions judge Sheetal Pradhan Chaudhary granted the relief after noting that Siddiqui’s wife is suffering from cancer and undergoing treatment at a Delhi hospital.The defence, led by advocate Arshdeep Singh Khurana, placed medical documents before the court, confirming that she required regular hospital visits for chemotherapy. “Interim bail on medical grounds is a legal concept that allows a prisoner to be released from jail on medical grounds of his family members, particularly in the case of his wife,” the court noted.Opposing the plea, Enforcement Directorate cited the seriousness of the offences levelled against Siddiqui, the chairman of the group. It also contended his wife’s condition was stable and she could seek help from relatives, adding that their children studying in the UAE could “travel to India to support their mother”.However, the court noted that she was battling a serious ailment and required care and support. The court also recorded that their youngest child, living in the UAE, was preparing for the Class XII board examinations. “It would be unreasonable” to expect the children to travel to India for their mother’s chemotherapy scheduled on March 12, it said.ED’s probe into Al-Falah Group stems from two FIRs by Delhi Police’s crime branch alleging that Al-Falah University falsely claimed NAAC accreditation and UGC recognition to mislead students and parents for unlawful gains. It came under scrutiny for allegedly harbouring several accused related to the Nov 10 blast near Red Fort.
