Mumbai: Meghwadi police have registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against developer Shraddha Lifestyle LLP and others involved in the redevelopment project in Jogeshwari East following the death of Sanskruti Amin (22) after a concrete brick fell on her head Wednesday.Police said five days ago, a large portion of the plywood used for laying the slab flew and fell on the roof of a house in the same locality, which was subsequently repaired by workers at the construction site. On Wednesday, the situation worsened when Sanskruti, a bank employee residing in the area, was killed by a falling concrete brick.“Action will be initiated on completion of the probe against the developer Shraddha Lifestyle LLP and others involved in the project,” a police official stated. TOI is in possession of the FIR copy. The case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 3(5) (common intention) based on a complaint filed by the deceased’s father, Anil Amin, a caterer by profession.Amin highlighted several mishaps at the construction site over the past six months that were either not reported or went unnoticed. This time, the loss was severe, resulting in his daughter’s death. Sanskruti had left her home at 9.30am to go to her workplace. “No arrest has been made so far. The matter is under investigation,” said DCP (Zone X) Datta Nalawade. The incident occurred around 9.30am when Sanskruti left home. Her father was having his breakfast when he heard people screaming outside. He rushed out to find his daughter lying in a pool of blood with a severe head injury. In the complaint, Amin stated: “My elderly mother, Padmavati, was standing outside when the incident occurred. I asked her why people are screaming. She said a brick fell from the higher floors from the construction site and hit my daughter’s head. I rushed out to find my daughter lying in a pool of blood. I rushed her to Trauma Care Hospital in Jogeshwari where she was declared dead before admission.”Amin alleged in the FIR: “There have been instances in the past six months when construction material has fallen from the site. Luckily, no one was injured or lost their life. This time the mishap took my daughter’s life. Six months ago, a few people suffered minor injuries after stones and pebbles hit them during drilling at the site. Five days ago, a large plywood sheet fell from higher floors and damaged the roof of a house in the locality. The worker repaired the damaged roof. So there was one complaint about it.”Sanskruti, who graduated in hotel management, left her earlier job at a city-based hotel and joined the bank on Sept 29. She was the only child of Anil Amin and lived with her parents, grandmother, and cousin sister Nishita Bemera. The family told TOI they have performed Sanskruti’s final rites. They seek severe action against the construction company for not following adequate safety measures that cost Sanskruti’s life.
