NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) apprehended two individuals, including a senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer of the 2007 batch, currently serving as Additional Director General in the Directorate of Taxpayer Services, New Delhi, and a private individual in connection with an alleged bribery case.The arrests were made on allegations of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 25 lakh from a complainant. The IRS officer was apprehended from his residence in Vasant Kunj, South Delhi.According to the CBI, a case was registered on May 31, 2025, against the accused based on allegations that the public servant demanded illegal gratification of Rs 45 lakh in exchange for favourable treatment from the Revenue/Income Tax Department. The demand was reportedly accompanied by threats of legal action, heavy penalties, and harassment if the complainant failed to comply.The CBI laid a trap and caught the private person red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe of Rs 25 lakh from the complainant at the public servant’s residence in Mohali. Both accused were arrested and will be produced before the competent court.The CBI is conducting searches at multiple locations across Delhi, Punjab, and Mumbai, and the investigation is ongoing, officials added.
