Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad fire brigade on Tuesday recovered the body of a 17-year-old youth who drowned in a quarry in Chikhali on Monday. The Chikhali police said the victim, Shree Chavan of Talawade, and his friends had gone for a swim in the quarry at Shelar Vasti in Chikhali on Monday. While in the water, Chavan lost his breath and drowned.“His friends waited for Chavan to come out of the water for about an hour. When he did not return, the terrified friends went home but did not tell anyone about the incident,” an officer from the Chikhali police said.Chavan’s family members searched for him in the night after he did not return home and later alerted the police. “On Tuesday, when we questioned his friends, they narrated the entire incident. We alerted the fire brigade team. They recovered the body from the quarry on Tuesday,” the officer said.In another incident, a 12-year-old student of a Warkari training school drowned in a lake near Alandi during Ganesh idol immersion late on Sunday. The boy’s body was recovered by the Alandi police and rescue team in the early hours of Monday, police said.
