Mumbai: BMC has received only two bids—from JSW and Raymonds—for development of a helipad at the Worli jetty along the coastal road on a public-private partnership (PPP) basis, said sources. The helipad is to accommodate medium-class helicopters and is expected to be used for medical/emergency evacuation, besides coastal surveillance and VIP movement.“The two companies that placed bids have prior experience in helicopter operations. We expect a lot of private parties, including those currently flying from the racecourse, to use the Worli jetty helipad for their requirements. We have fixed a monthly revenue and a percentage of the revenue from helicopter landing and takeoff movements,” said a civic official. The firm that lands the tender is expected to share its revenue from operations. According to civic officials, as the PPP is based on a revenue-sharing model, a fixed monthly revenue of Rs 1 lakh has to be given to BMC, besides a percentage of revenue from helicopter landing and take-off movements. According to BMC, the firm entering into the PPP is expected to incorporate aesthetic elements to beautify the Worli jetty area, enhancing the public view and integrating with the coastal road infrastructure, besides preparing detailed architectural and engineering designs for the helipad and associated facilities and ensuring compliance with Directorate General of Civil Aviation’s guidelines, International Civil Aviation Organization’s standards, and other statutory aviation requirements.
