Mumbai: The BMC has floated a tender worth Rs 2,200 crore inviting bids for construction of a vehicular bridge and an elevated road in Malad, along with a new traffic arm to connect Mumbai Coastal Road with Marve Road.Additional municipal commissioner (Projects) Abhijit Bangar said the bridge from Lagoon Road to Infiniti Mall will help connect Malad West to Malvani, and the elevated road over Ramchandra nullah, from MDP Road to Ryan International School, will link the backside of Evershine Nagar up to Atharva College.Along with the bridge over Ramchandra nullah, the project proposes an additional arm from Charkop junction to Ryan International School, and also widening of Malad-Marve Road by 3.65m from Mahakali Nagar Junction up to the nullah towards Mith Chowky near Giridhar Park. Civic officials said the cable-stayed bridge from Lagoon Road to Infinity Mall, which is estimated to cost over Rs 1,700 crore, will be 380m long and 36m wide. It is expected to resolve long-standing traffic issues in Malad. As about 200 mangroves will be affected by the project, the civic body has obtained approval from the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authorities.The bridge over Ramchandra nullah will cost around Rs 400 crore, civic officials added. The Rs 2,200-crore project gained momentum due to follow-ups by Union minister and North Mumbai MP Piyush Goyal, who stressed that the bridges would be vital to manage traffic in Mith Chowky and Evershine Nagar areas in view of the second phase of the coastal road project.
