Bloodshed at DDA park: 2 separate stabbing incidents rock Delhi; 1 dead, another injured

NEW DELHI: A 16-year-old boy was murdered and another man was injured in two separate stabbing incidents at a DDA Park in West Delhi’s Moti Nagar on Sunday. Police said two incidents were not connected and took place at different locations inside the park, which is spread over a large area.According to police, the first incident involved the murder of a minor following an argument over a mobile phone. Police received information at around 6.37 pm from a hospital regarding the admission of a teenage boy who had been declared brought dead. The victim, a resident of Inderlok, had sustained a stab injury below his right shoulder blade.Preliminary investigation suggested that the attackers had allegedly asked the boy for his mobile phone to make a call. When the boy refused, stating that he did not have any balance, an argument broke out, which soon escalated into a scuffle.“A scuffle ensued after the boy refused to hand over his mobile phone. During the altercation, he was stabbed,” a senior police officer said, adding that the information was based on statements given by witnesses present at the scene. Police, however, said that they were investigating the case from all possible angles, including the possibility of robbery.About an hour later, at around 7.50 pm, police received another call from a hospital regarding a second stabbing incident in the same park. The injured man was identified as Mohammad Danish (25). He had suffered a stab injury to his back. Danish was initially taken to Acharya Bhikshu Hospital and was later referred to a higher medical facility due to the seriousness of his injuries. He is currently undergoing treatment at the AIIMS Trauma Centre.Police said the second incident occurred after a minor altercation in which the victim’s shoulder reportedly brushed against another person, leading to a sudden argument and subsequent stabbing.Clarifying speculation about a possible link between the two cases, a senior police officer said that initial findings suggested the incidents were committed by two different groups. “Though both incidents took place inside the same DDA park, they occurred at different spots. At this stage, there is no evidence to suggest that the cases are connected. We are scanning CCTV footage,” the officer said, adding that investigations were ongoing to establish the full sequence of events.
