Vasai: Days after the Virar building collapse that claimed 17 lives, minister Pratap Sarnaik on Friday suggested Mhada temporarily hand over 60 flats in another project to the Vasai-Virar civic body to house affected families. He visited the crash site and assured victims of a quick resolution.Sarnaik spoke to deputy CM Eknath Shinde, who suggested cluster development of illegal buildings. Palghar guardian minister Ganesh Naik, who was also at the site, said there are 140 unsafe illegal buildings in the belt. Two of the nine injured have undergone surgery. Prerna Shinde, a third floor resident who was rescued, said a little before the crash, the fourth floor’s window fell and a crack developed in her living room floor. “We planned to vacate the next day, but it all came down.” —Vishal Rajemahadik
