BJP supporters forcefully evicted independent candidate in Kharghar; Turnout less on Sunday’s event

Navi Mumbai: There was high drama at the Kharghar police station on Saturday as BJP supporters clashed with an independent candidate. The BJP supporters allegedly dragged and forcefully evocted ex-corporator Netra Patil from a program organised for the people in Kharghar. Videos went viral on social media.The event was held next to a Gurudwara in Kharghar. Patil has been a regular at the program but faced the heat after resigning from the BJP. The Vidarbha region people organised a similar event on Sunday but the turnout was less following the controversy. During the election hours such events are sponsored by politicians offering free meals. Khandeshchi Rahivasi Sangh and Khandesh Vikas Foundation had organized the get-together at the mutt. The event was attended by BJP leaders including MLA Mahesh Baldi and the party candidates. However, no party banner was hoisted. Netra Patil sat on the stage while a few supporters were among the gathering. She was asked to get down from the stage but did not. Earlier, a social media invitation was shared with Patil. However, the event was attended by three out of four candidates and the MLA, who are not from the Khandesh region.It also came out that the event was organized without police permission. The supporters of Patil gathered at the Kharghar police station but no complaint was lodged.Patil alleged, “The event was wrongly used to influence the region’s people to garner votes. As I did not get down from the stage they threatened me and my supporters. I am campaigning in a peaceful manner and never used any foul words against any one. What is the contribution of those on the stage for the Khandesh region?”ACP-Kharghar, Vikram Kadam said, “No complaint has been lodged with my office but the issue will be looked into.”
