BJP names 22 more district chiefs ahead of civic polls

Mumbai: Two weeks after a fake list of BJP’s district unit chiefs was circulated on social media, the party released the names for 22 positions on Saturday.BJP may soon announce the name of its state president; working state president Ravindra Chavan is said to be the frontrunner for it. BJP minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule indicated on Saturday that Chavan, four-time Dombivli MLA, will be picked for the role. Chavan is actively overseeing party activities in MMR ahead of civic polls slated to be held this year. After BJP announced 58 district presidents earlier, a purportedly false list surfaced online, listing 81 names. The party called it an attempt by adversaries to create confusion among candidates and workers.“Our party is the only organisation that follows democratic norms to elect even local-level office bearers. The district presidents are a mix of experienced leaders and new workers,” said Mumbai BJP secretary Vivekanand Gupta. The district chiefs will provide essential input during seat-sharing talks and candidate selection for the civic polls.
