Bhide bridge in Deccan Gymkhana area to remain shut for Metro work from Sept 10

Pune: The Baba Bhide bridge that was reopened for vehicular and pedestrian movement during Ganeshotsav will remain shut again from Wednesday to assist with the remaining Metro work.The bridge is likely to remain closed until the first week of Oct.Road users are urged to opt for alternative routes like the Gadgil bridge (Z bridge) and Lakdi Pul for daily commuting. The riverside roads will remain open for commuters; however, vehicles will not be able to cross the river via Bhide bridge.The Maha Metro is constructing a cable-stayed bridge above Bhide bridge, connecting the Deccan Gymkhana Metro station with the Narayan Peth area. This bridge will provide direct access to residents to the Metro station. The work on the bridge has been under way for two months, but was stopped to facilitate movement during Ganeshotsav. About 50% of the work on the cable-stayed bridge is still pending.A Maha Metro official said a review of the work will be held in the first week of Oct. “There is a plan to finish the maximum amount of work by next month,” the official said.
