Bandra (W) residents fume after St Andrew’s Road dug up again

Mumbai: A part of St Andrew’s Road outside Bandra Gymkhana was dug up once again, much to the dismay of local residents. With a portion of the carriageway excavated, traffic was reduced to a single lane, causing inconvenience to motorists. In May 2018, the BMC undertook repairs on St Andrew’s Road to replace paver blocks with asphalt. The work, however, was left incomplete, and the contractor’s services were terminated following complaints of shoddy execution. In 2021, the civic body planned to concretise the road. Civic officials said the current excavation was not related to road repairs and said the work was part of the upgradation of the Chimbai pumping station, involving micro-tunnelling, and the dug-up section was meant for the construction of a chamber.
