Amit Thackeray demands stern action against ABVP members for Monday’s poster ruckus | Pune News

Pune: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) youth wing chief Amit Thackeray met city police commissioner Amitesh Kumar on Tuesday and demanded stern action against Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) members for the ruckus over poster dispute on Monday. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, he issued a stern warning to ABVP members, saying, “If you point a finger at us, we’ll raise a hand. There will definitely be action and reaction.” Thackeray said, “This is the second time such an incident has happened. Even if they are in power or try to put pressure, it won’t make a difference. I stand firmly with my people. I have no intention of disturbing law and order, but the law must be equal for everyone.” The trouble between the MNS and ABVP members started after the latter put up posters in a college on Bund Garden Road, urging students to join them instead of the youth wings of other political parties. Thackeray said, “I discussed with the police commissioner about the posters put up in the college. Police can study the CCTV footage, and if their (ABVP) people are found involved, all their offices in the city will be shut down. And if we put up posters saying ‘boycott’ (other parties), will that be acceptable to them?” Speaking about the current crime situation in Pune, Thackeray said, “The city’s condition today is serious. Drug abuse, crimes against women, and incidents involving alcohol among minors are increasing. Even after the Porsche accident, nothing has changed. Serving alcohol to those under 18 is a terrible act, and we’re preparing a list of such cases.” “A case of trespassing was filed against our party workers. We are used to facing cases. But if proper action isn’t taken now, there will be a reaction.” Deputy commissioner of police (special branch) Sandip Bhajibhakare told TOI, “Thackeray had a detailed discussion with us, especially over the case registered against MNS members with Vishrambaug police. We assured him that the probe will be carried out impartially.”
