Ahmedabad blast accused convicted

New Delhi: A Delhi court has convicted Abdul Subhan Qureshi, key conspirator of the 2008 Ahmedabad blasts and the man behind merging SIMI with the Indian Mujahideen (IM).The conviction stems from a case where Qureshi fired at three police officers, including then DCP (special cell) Pramod Kushwaha, during an attempted arrest.Additional sessions judge Saurabh Pratap Singh Laler pronounced the conviction on Sept 3 at Patiala House Court. Sentencing is due on Monday.Qureshi, arrested in 2018 after years on the run, was the mastermind behind the July 2008 blasts that killed 56 people and injured 246. He fled India aiming to build an IS-style caliphate led by Taliban chief Mullah Omar. An electronics graduate, Qureshi worked part-time while forming IM with co-conspirators post-SIMI ban.TNN
