After fatal bus accident, govt orders refresher training for drivers

New Delhi: Following a few road accidents involving public buses, Delhi govt directed private concessionaires operating govt buses to conduct refresher training programmes for drivers to improve road safety and prevent mishaps. The direction came a day after two persons were killed and four others were injured in a road accident involving a cluster bus in Nangloi on Sunday morning.“A notice was issued to the private concessionaire directing the immediate termination of services of the driver involved and initiating necessary action for criminal and civil liabilities. Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) constituted a committee to conduct a detailed inquiry into the incident,” said an official.According to official figures, in 2024–25, a total of 50 accidents involving cluster buses were reported. Of these, 20 were fatal accidents, including 14 involving non-AC buses and six involving AC buses. There were also 12 major accidents, with five linked to non-AC buses and seven to AC buses. In addition, 18 minor accidents were recorded during the year, including 10 involving non-AC buses and eight involving AC buses.
