Pune: The Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) has revoked the affiliation of Sinhgad Dental College and Hospital, effective 2026-27 academic year, for violating provisions of the Maharashtra Public University Act. That means students will not be able to take admissions in undergraduate and postgraduate courses offered by the college.Among the violations are non-payment of salaries to teaching and non-teaching staff and the college’s failure to meet the academic standards set by the university, according to a notice issued by MUHS. A decision to cancel the affiliation was taken at a meeting of the academic council of MUHS held on Jan 23, officials said.Meanwhile, to ensure that the students currently studying at the college do not suffer, they will be permanently transferred to other private colleges in the state. The process of transfer will be handled by the university, said Rajendra Bangal, registrar of MUHS. “Sinhgad Dental College and Hospital is disaffiliated from the academic year 2026-27. We have communicated this to the college. The university will take appropriate steps to transfer the students of the college to other private colleges,” he said.Despite attempts, M N Navale, president of Sinhgad Technical Education Society that runs the college, could not be contacted for his comment. The notice issued to the college said it must pay all its teaching and non-teaching staff the full amount of their outstanding salaries and submit a report to the university. Only after this will the college be able to send a proposal for the renewal of its affiliation, it stated. (With inputs from Santosh Sonawane)
